Last week, a local businessman lost $500 cash and accessories worth $250 to a gang of six armed men who pounced on the shop under the pretext of being genuine buyers at around 8pm.
Matabeleland South Police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the robbers, armed with knives and machetes, stormed into the shop and threatened the shopkeeper.
He said they demanded the keys and the shopkeeper lead the gang to the house where they tried to tie him but failed.
The shopkeeper managed to free himself and alerted other villagers.
The gang used stones to attack the villagers, who fled in the bush for cover leaving the house unattended.
The robbers held hostage a woman who was in the house and stole the Cash.
No arrests have been made but police have launched a manhunt for the robbers.
