The station, which is the brainchild of a group of Johannesburg-based Zimbabweans from the country’s western region of Matabeleland, was officially launched in Hillbrow towards the end of March last year and has been broadcasting on the internet since then.
The station’s co-founder and Executive Director, Gerald Ngulube kaNcube, recently told ***The Zimbabwean that the station was also trying to get itself available on other types of phones as well.
“Radio Mthwakazi FM is pleased to announce that people with BlackBerry phones will now be able to listen to Radio Mthwakazi on their mobiles,” said KaNcube in Johannesburg.
“The station management have been working day and night to find ways of reaching more people not only by having to log on to your computer to listen because most of our listeners do not have access to a computer on a daily basis, while others have no access to a computer at all, so this will come as good news to many people because nowadays almost everyone has a mobile phone.”
The station broadcasts in mainly Ndebele and Khalanga, but wants to expand to cover all languages that are spoken in the Matabeleland region.
