Rutendo Stars fired

Division one outfit Rutendo Stars has been fired from the Central Soccer League. The team becomes the first in the country’s leagues to meet such a fate this season.

CSL chairman Patrick Hokonya confirmed the development and said the decision had been supported by all clubs in the region’s two provinces, Matabeleland South and Midlands.

“Rutendo Stars were guilty by a disciplinary hearing panel on several charges. These included fielding unregistered players. The team also failed to fulfil fixtures and at present owe officials about $1 000,” Hokonya said.

He added the recent Annual General Meeting had resolved that Rutendo Stars had become uncompetitive in the league.

“The team has a record of dismal performance, having at one time conceded five goals in one match.”

The dismissal of Rutendo means that the CSL league is now left with 18 teams. The number of teams had originally become uneven after the protested promotion of Kwekwe base former PSL side Lancashire Steel.
