SACP, BNF support fight for democracy

Two political organisations from neighbouring South Africa have vowed to support the ongoing struggle for democracy in Zimbabwe and Swaziland, where oppressive regimes are still in charge and standing in the way of change.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) and the Botswana National Front (NCF), met in Johannesburg recently and resolved to continue supporting the struggle for democracy in the two countries.

“Our parties undertook to locate, as a critical site of our political cooperation, the sharing of ideological training, research and to cooperate on party building, media and to promote progressive internationalism in the region,” said Mhlekwa Nxumalo, a spokesperson for the SACP, which is one of the tripartite partners in South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC).

“We resolved to support both the peoples of Swaziland and Zimbabwe, and provide solidarity to Western Sahara, Palestine and Cuba, while a specific effort will be made into furthering our analysis of the North Africa and the Middle East regions of imperialist conflict.”

The two parties also signed a memorandum of cooperation, which Nxumalo said would help deepen and strengthen both their relations and efforts.
