The Zimbabwean visited the drought-prone area and witnessed scores of hungry villagers picking wild fruits such as matamba and shumha to feed their families.
“A lot of people here are starving. They did not yield anything from their fields this year. Cases of malnutrition especially among children and old people have been on the increase here because of the draught,” said headman Masunda.
The headman said the drought situation was worsened by the fact that traditional food donors such World Vision and Care International were no longer giving aid to the villagers.
“During the previous years we have getting a lot of assistance from donors such Christian Care, but we are no longer receiving anything. The situation is really bad,” said headman Masunda.
