Zim film wins grand prize

David Max Brown, a South African filmmaker has won the "Grand Prize" at the International Movie Trailer Festival The two-minute action/adventure thriller Short Cut, a received the highest votes and beat the other 138 trailers to win the $5,000 prize.

The trailer was made in South Africa. It features two brothers searching for freedom but are forced into slavery in an illegal mine in South Africa. Separated when they try to escape the older brother is deported back to Zimbabwe and must cross the border again to free the little brother he left behind. This is a well shot trailer which they are now beginning to turn into a feature film.

The International Movie Trailer Festival was launched in 2010 to help independent filmmakers from all around the world showcase their work to everyone interested in movies.

David Max Brown, who produced the trailer, was elated at the prize.

"To all of you who helped to get this movie trailer for Short Cut made and publicised, thanks so so much," Brown said in a terse statement.

He said the winning package also includes a skype session with Scott Rosenfelt, the producer of more than 30 Hollywood films and most famously producer of Home Alone, Mystic Pizza, and Smoke Signals.

Brown said the prize was testimony to the fact that the world is looking out for meaningful well made films from South Africa and Africa.
