Corruption at POSB

EDITOR - Allow me through your newspaper to let people and government (which is our shareholder) know that POSB workers are not happy with what is happening in the company. The board has no care for us, its term has expired and they continue to run the affairs of the Bank illegally.

We work the longest hours but we are the least paid in the market. The CEO is refusing to give us loans to pay school fees for our children – telling us to take advance pay from peanuts. He is not worried because his children’s fees are paid by the bank and he gets 1000 litres of fuel every month as well as a high salary and huge loans.

Last year we made profits and we were supposed to share – but he and his board members refused at the last minute. He hides behind this careless board members who are also collecting fuel from the bank and enjoying benefits which are more than those who work for the money.

The board members are pulling the bank down by prescribing benefits to themselves which are more than the workers benefits. They are all borrowing from the bank, and have taken over operational management, approving everything from loans to appointments or recruitment, leaving professional managers as onlookers. They compare us to civil servants, not other banks. We work hard to make a profit, but they don't want us paid market rates.

We appeal to government to help us by removing the corrupt CEO and his acting board members. The board members' term expired last year but one and there is no substantive chairman. Please, you are our voice – help us. – CONCERNED WORKERS, Harare
