Today, scores of MDC supporters are still living as vagrants after being chased from their homes by Zanu (PF) supporters who have the tacit consent of the police.
“In 2010 I was promised by the City of Harare that I would be given a new home but that has not happened yet,” said Musanhi, an MDC-T councillor who lost his Mbare home to Zanu (PF) invaders in 2008.
When in Harare, Musanhi, who is the MDC-T councilor for Mutoko North Ward 12, lives like a destitute. Everson Nyekete, a known member of the Zanu (PF) group of thugs Chipangano, chased him from Chishawasha flats in 2008 simply because he chose to support the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai now Prime Minister of Zimbabwe.
There was hope that with the MDC-T in government the crooked would be straightened and the laws of the country respected – but that has not been the case, not only for Musanhi but also for countless other MDC supporters who have lost their homes to insatiable Zanu (PF) gangs.
MDC-T Harare province chairman, Paul Madzore, implored the city fathers to find a solution for people displaced from their homes because of politics – not only in Mbare but also in others areas such as Epworth.
“We are aware that our members have lost their homes and our appeal is that the city fathers intervene, we would like a peaceful existence in Harare,” said Madzore.
Despite having occupied Shawasha Flats Block 5 B 11 for 19 years and the flat being, according to the City of Harare, in his name, Musanhi remains unwanted near his rightful home, all because of violent politics and that precipitate invasions of homes.
