Farai Machaya freed on bail

High Court Judge Justice Musakwa has granted Farai Machaya bail pending his trial for allegedly murdering an MDC Gokwe supporter. He is the son of Midlands Zanu (PF) Governor and Chairperson, Jaison Machaya.

Together with four of the six Zanu (PF) supporters also implicated in the murder of Moses Chokuda on 22 March 2009, Farai Machaya was granted a $100 bail.

He is being represented by Kwekwe based lawyer Josiniah Maupa. Before the bail, they were being held at Hwahwa remand prison. Chief Law Officer, Rose Takuva, opposed the bail when the trial commenced, saying it risked stalling the trial if one of the accused failed to show up.
