Five Masvingo Student Activists Acquitted

Five Masvingo Student Activist, Zivanai Muzorodzi, Arnold Batirai, Gamuchirai Mukura, Godfrey Kurauone and Brighton Ramusi appeared today the 5th of September before a Masvingo Magistrate facing charges of public indecency following a demonstration against the barring of students who had not paid fees from writing exams last year.

However, at the end of the state’s case, the magistrate found no evidence and acquitted the activists.

The state continues to level these frivolous cases against students through college and University authorities who are against academic freedoms. These authorities remain a stumbling block to the extent that most of the cases being brought against the courts have not held up. The Students Solidarity Trust would want to urge prosecuting authorities to drop all charges leveled against students in the country.
