Gweru Rugby Club eyes supreme league

Gweru Rugby Club is on the verge of promotion into the supreme league. The team must win a crunch play-off match against Old Hararians 2 next week in order to realise the dream.

National Rugby League Chairman Noddy Kanyangarara said even if Gweru Rugby Club loses the match, there may be another chance.

“We are considering expanding the league to 12 teams next year from the current eight. Such a development would accommodate more teams like Gweru Rugby Club,” he said.

Expansion of the league will go a long way in spreading the league to other parts of the country outside Harare and Bulawayo.

The only out-of -Harare team which has been in the league was Mutare Sports Club. However, the struggling side was recently relegated after losing five points for not fulfilling a fixture.
