Harare Council probes Moyo

A Harare City councillor has alleged that Zanu (PF) Politburo member, Professor Jonathan Moyo, has converted a residential stand in Borrowdale into a commercial stand in order to run a Guest Lodge.

The issue came to light during a full council meeting chaired by Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda at Town House on Tuesday. Councillor for Borrowdale West Julias Musevenzi told the council that residential stand number 14097 allocated to Moyo along Teviotdale Road in Borrowdale West, had been turned into a guest lodge by the professor.

“It is funny to note that this stand, according to Urban Planning Services, is yet to be given the permission to be turned into a Guest Lodge which the ‘Spin Doctor’ Jonathan Moyo already did,” Musevenzi told the council meeting.

Musevenzi said that the location of the lodge was dangerous and a number of accidents had happened on the turn off junction close to the lodge.

The property is situated within ‘Zone 1A(i) Residential’ of the operative Harare West Town Planning Scheme Section 2 Area, where the proposed development required the special consent of the local planning authority.

The councillor alleged Moyo could have used his Zanu (PF) connections in the Urban Planning department to operate the lodge without authority. Efforts to obtain comment from Moyo were fruitless.
