I’m a grown man: Zaka Zaka

Former Ochestra Mberikwazvo talented rhythm guitarist, Zacharia Zacharia, said his debut album – Tererai (Listen) – is a clear indication of his maturity in the local mainstream music scene.

“This album (Tererai) is a hallmark in my music career. It’s a bold statement that says I am now solo. I am now a grown man,” said Zaka Zaka.

Emphasizing his seriousness in pursuing his solo career, Zaka Zaka said plans to shoot a DVD album of his debut project were already underway.

“We have already finished rehearsing for the shooting of a DVD album. I am waiting for Last Power Studios (where he recorded the album) to give us the go ahead. Otherwise everything is in place,” he said.

Quizzed about whether there were any hostile relations between him and his former boss, Alick Macheso, Zaka Zaka hastened to say all was well in the camp.

“Let me make this clear, me and Mukoma (brother Alick) Macheso have no bad blood between each other. In fact, Macheso is like a brother to me. We built Last Power together. It’s our home,” he declared.

After spending some time in the wilderness and drifting from one band to the other, Zaka Zaka’s highly versatile album is a mixture of sungura, kanindo, jiti, afro-jazz, rhumba and R ‘n’ B, backed by heavy instrumentation and placid backing vocals.

The album was released on August 4 this year and carries track such as Zvipo (Gifts), Ndine Mubvunzo (I have a question), Mudiwa Wangu (My love), Wasauka (Broke) and Chikumbiro (Wish).
