Amid an escalating feud with Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono, Kasukuwere upped the ante by alleging that Gono was getting a slush fund from Barclays and Standard Chartered banks, and should shut up and eat his ill-gotten wealth.

Gono has denounced Kasukuwere's crusade against Barclays and Standard Chartered Banks. Kasukuwere wants the two banks to cede 51 per cent of their shareholding to black Zimbabweans by next week. Adressing a rally in Mwenezi, Kasukuwere stepped up attacks on Gono whom he accused of teaming up with whites to "abuse our people”.

Kasukuwere told the delegates that he wanted them to present proposals to him so that he could bankroll the projects. The receptive audience bussed in for the occasion bellowed Zanu (PF) slogans and anti-MDC denunciations.

He said Barclays and Standard Chartered banks were refusing to extend loans to black

Zimbabweans who had accounts with the banks, adding that they were making a profit from "our people”.

"We want our people to be in there as shareholders," Kasukuwere said.
