Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri of Zanu (PF) and his rival in the party, Foster Gwanzura, passed the venue on several occasions with cars full of Zanu (PF) supporters.
Eddington Mangwenzi, District Chairperson for Marondera West, said that even though people were being intimidated, they were no longer scared.
“Mutinhiri told us that we should not have an MDC rally in his constituency. He told us that it is wrong to support the MDC in Marondera West, but we went ahead with our plans even though they were ripping our posters down,” said Magwenzi.
“We thought that there would be violence at our celebration, but the police maintained a heavy presence and Zanu (PF) supporters just passed and waved their clenched fists. That cannot scare us as we are fighting for the rights of the people,” said Mangwenzi.
Mashonaland East National Representative for the MDC-T, Silas Gweshe, urged the villagers not to stay in their shells, but to continue showing courage.
“Zanu (PF) is finished. People here are growing in terms of courage and that is a good sign for the MDC. We hope that they will receive protection from the police,” said Gweshe.Post published in: News
