The drugs, 14.7 kilos of cocaine, were found in four bags belonging to two women passengers, a Zambian and a South African, who had just disembarked from an Ethiopian Airways flight.
The third person arrested was the man waiting for them. The police did not announce his nationality or the names of any of the detainees.
The two women had flown from India. The STV report said they changed planes at Nairobi – but the Ethiopian Airways flight on Wednesday is direct from Addis Ababa to Maputo and does not stop at Nairobi.
Drugs in suitcases can now be detected easily, because all the luggage of disembarking passengers passes through an electronic scanner at the airport.
This is the third drugs arrest at the airport this month. A week earlier another Zambian woman, named as Malekane Mulumine, was arrested in possession of 500 grams of cocaine hidden in her luggage. She too had come from India and used the Ethiopian Airways flight.
A 32 year old South African, Martin Ndu, was arrested outside the airport. The police believe he was waiting for Mulumine and planned to take her and the drugs overland to Johannesburg.
On 7 September a Bolivian woman, named as R. Segovia, was arrested at the airport, and found to be carrying 62 capsules of cocaine in her stomach. She had come on a flight from South Africa.Post published in: Africa News
