Police in Manicaland have confirmed the horrific incident and said investigations were underway to ascertain the man’s motive.
Oswell Murambwi, 29, assaulted his wife Sarah, 44, with an iron rod in the bedroom that she shared with her three children. She managed to escape, leaving her husband to take his anger out on the children. Sarah called on her neighbours for help, at which point her husband fled. Despite taking her children straight to the hospital, two-year-old Nokotenda died from his injuries.
Murambwi is still at large and the police have appealed to members of the public for any information that might lead to his arrest.
