Rusike in line for individual gong

Ajax Cape Town midfielder, Tafadzwa Rusike, is one of the early season candidates to win an individual accolade at the end of the ongoing season following a marvellous start to the 2011/12 Absa Premiership campaign.

The Zimbabwe international winger was one of the stars of this past weekend, scoring the best goal of this round of matches, and arguably the best of his career, when his side beat visiting Free State Stars 3-1 in Cape Town.

Rusike's strike was one from the top drawer.

Deep into the second half with Ajax leading one-nil at the Cape Town Stadium, the 22 year-old received a pass from the centre circle, sprinted a few yards before letting loose a ferocious effort that gave Kenedy Mweene in goals for stars no chance.

Moments later, fellow Zimbabwean Khama Billiat made it 3-0 in favour of the Capetonians before Stars got a consolation from Katlego Mashego.

A player who scores the best goal in a season is rewarded with the Absa-lutely Awesome Goal of the Season Award at the end of every PSL campaign. The accolade comes with R50 000 prize money.

Orlando Pirates winger, Tlou Segolela won the award last season after a brilliant individual effort, ironically against Stars.

Former Caps United winger Rusike has been one of the standout performers as Ajax aim to win their first league title since their formation in 1999.

They handed Pirates the title on the last day of the 2010/11 season on a silver platter after failing to beat Maritzburg United at their Cape Town Stadium fortress.
