Ruwa wants Lendele Farm for urban housing

Desperate for room to expand, the town council has engaged beneficiaries of the “land reform” programme at Lendele Farm.

The Mayor, Alderman Pinias Mushayavanhu, said the council was negotiating via the Ministry of Lands with some of the owners of the vast farm, which has a capacity of providing 25 000 stands.

The town currently has a waiting list of 2000 people and Mushayavanhu said that if they get the land at Landele then the town’s land quest would be met.

“The people of Ruwa are crying for land for housing and we have agreed to develop Landele farm which was as a peri-urban farming area,” said Mushayavanhu.

But despite having already started developing the land, Ruwa is still faced with resistance from a handful of farmers who want to continue using the land for urban farming and have threatened to burn the council’s equipment.

The mayor said he would continue to engage them in the hope of reaching a mutually satisfactory agreement.
