“This is the only way that we can continue living on our farms. They have taken the larger portions of our farms and others have completely lost their whole farms and if we do not do that we will end up losing everything,” said a commercial white farmer in the area.
“This also involves offering financial support to the Zanu (PF) district leadership, attending all party meetings and keeping a fully paid up party card,” added another white commercial farmer who cannot be named.
The situation has worsened ahead of the envisaged elections.
A Zanu (PF)district official told The Zimbabwean that most of the white farmers were attending Zanu (PF) meetings and complying with all Zanu (PF) directives publicly, but would vote for the MDC-T in any election.
“We can force them to attend meetings, chant Zanu (PF) slogans and buy the cards but, the truth is that they would vote for Tsvangirai in any given election,” said the official.
