Soccer teams to battle in Tonderai Ndira Memorial Cup

Two MDC soccer teams on Saturday will battle it out in the Tonderai Ndira Memorial Cup to be held in Budiriro 1, chimbumu Grounds. The match starts at 10AM. The cup, which is being sponsored by party Secretary General and Harare East Member of Parliament, Hon. Tendai Biti will pit Budiriro and Harare East who will be playing in the first draw of the finals in Budiriro.

The second leg and final game will be played in Harare East next weekend.

The Tonderai Ndira Memorial Cup is being held in honour of the late slain hero for real change hero, Tonderai ‘Serge’ Ndira. He is part of over 500 MDC activists and supporters who were callously murdered by the Zanu PF regime in their fight for real change in the run up to the sham 27 June, 2008 presidential election run-off. The Cup will become an annual feature to remember, honour and support the cause for peace, change and unity which the MDC is fighting for.

Several senior MDC officials including Hon. Biti will attend the match.

Meanwhile, Councillor Mxolisi Ndlovu of Ward 4 in Umguza Rural District Council in Matebeleland North province was today suspended from office by the council’s chief executive on four misconduct or very vague charges. The councillor is the only public official who was voted into office in the district on an MDC ticket.

The four false charges being levelled against Councillor Ndlovu are that at an unknown date, he unlawfully made contacts with District Development Fund officials and that on yet another unknown date he unlawfully conducted his own investigations with the mandate of the council.

The other two counts are that he conducted himself in a manner that raised a lot of concerns and suspicions with the fourth count being that Councillor Ndlovu wrote letters to various institutions, including the Provincial Administrator’s office and the Local Government Permanent Secretary.

Councilor Ndlovu described the charges being brought against him as laughable as they did not capture any detailed allegations of crimes committed by him. He accused the council of being used by Local Government Minister, Ignatius Chombo to force him out office on trumped up charges.
