On learning about the passing on of Goremuchi at Marondera Provincial Hospital last Sunday, business at surrounding farms was suspended in solidarity. All resources and energy was directed towards a decent. Mourners told The Zimbabwean about the importance of a spirit of oneness in the new farming communities.
Zanu (PF) councillor for Ward 6, identified as Nyahuda, urged mourners to respect deceased fellow comrades from the villages and be selective of words to use at the burial.
At Goremuchi’s funeral, villagers contributed more than 300kg of maize meal, more 40 kg of meat, dozens of heads of cabbages, cartons of milk, cooking oil, bread sugar and salt among other food.
“Food contributions made by members of the community towards funerals should suffice to see bereaved families through the coming economically difficult months. As farmers we resolved to stand by each other during the hard times,” said an elderly new farmer who declined to be named.
The funeral and the subsequent burial were attended by more than 600 mourners.
