Theatre group aims for Edinburgh

Reigning Harare International Festival of Arts theatre winners, NKM Theatre Initiative, have embarked on rigorous preparations for a performance at next year’s the Edinburgh International Festival.

The festival will celebrate the vibrant and diverse cultures of Asia with the finest artists from countries and regions including China, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam joining others from around the world to explore shared passions.

NKM Theatre Initiative outclassed local and international theatre productions at Hifa in April before a cosmopolitan audience.

The group's production entitled Burn Mukwerekwere Burn is the one which all the judges found irresistible.

Blessing Hungwe, the Productions Writer told The Zimbabwean that the group's aim is to stage the best ever performance in Scotland.

"We have toured all universities in the country as part of our preparations. Before we travel to Scotland we shall perform at Grahamstown festival in South Africa," he said.

The group based in Chitungwiza, is one of the few to get an international platform to sell Zimbabwe's culture to the world.
