Zanu (PF) is putting pressure on some villagers to vote for Zanu (PF) in the envisaged elections to be held this year. Zanu (PF)’s Secretary for External Affairs in the Youth League, Joshua Sacco, who is eyeing the Chimanimani East constituency, is using youth militia and his vehicle, a white Isuzu KB truck, to unleash terror on the villagers.
Sacco has targeted Machongwe and Ndima areas where they are intimidating villagers to join Zanu (PF) party. The group is led by Colert Mutimwa who is a worker at Sacco’s farm.
Recently an MDC activist, Robert Tandanai, was abducted but later found dumped in the bush after he was severely assaulted for drumming up support for the MDC-T in the area.
“We had just retired for bed when a group of Zanu (PF) militia broke into Tandanai’s hut while he was sleeping alone. They grabbed him by his hands and force-marched him to a truck where they said they would return him alive on condition that he renounce his MDC membership,” said a neighbour who witnessed the abduction.
The neighbour who cannot be named for security reasons said: “I alerted other villagers and followed the abductees while shouting for help from other fellow villagers. We found him dumped with blood bleeding from the wounds he sustained from beatings in a bush.
“We then made a report at the police base but no action was taken and no arrests were made,” said the neighbour.
Pardon Maguta the MDC-T coordinator in the area said there was a new wave of political violence in the area which was dominated by Zanu (PF) supporters.
Maguta said: “The MDC-T supporters are being harassed here because Machongwe area is dominated by Zanu (PF) resettled farmers.”
