A spokesman for the show told The Zimbabwean hat the high profile show promises to be a rich and colourful explosion of the music of Africa, with Zimbabwe’s own rising star, Alexio Kawara, opening for the visitors.
He said advance tickets were on sale at Book Café from Thursday, September 1.
Eric Wainaina is a soft-spoken and fiercely focused musician. The young star has never allowed his attention to be removed from the business of crafting excellent music – from his earliest days of meticulous harmony training in the hit acappella group, ***5 Alive through his first engagements with creating a new contemporary sound for Kenyan music.
The spokesman said his two award-winning records, Sawa Sawa (2001) and Twende Twende (2006) were still among the highest selling records in Kenya and his lyrical and melodic prowess make him a highly sought-after composer in collaborative projects as well as music for the screen.
Alexio Kawara is a dynamic young Zimbabwean artist who is making his way in the world, hugely popular in Zimbabwe.
He performs with the group "Shades of Black" regularly at the Book Café and other venues in Harare, as well as local tours carrying his music to the people of Zimbabwe.
This month, Alexio joins Eric Wainaina, Oliver Mtukudzi and Dudu Manhenga in separate performances at the month-long South African Festival, Arts Alive later in September.
