Zim dominates Afrotainment-Museke awards

Six top notch Zimbabwean born musicians have been nominated for this year’s third edition of the Afrotainment-Museke Online African Music Awards (Moamas), which will be announced via an event at Afrotainment's New York studios on September 24 this year.

These include dancehall kingpin Winky D, South African based Jah Seed of Bongo Muffin, UK based R ‘n’ B duo B Kay and Kazz, and Australian based Audius Mutawarira, including little known Tinashe and Shingai Shoniwa.

Leading the nominee pack is Tinashe with two nominations for his song Zambezi in the Alternative Song of the Year and Diaspora Song of the Year categories.

Winky D, Jah Seed, Shoniwa, Audius and B Kay and Kazz, were all nominated once for their songs Musarova Bigman (Don’t beat Bigman), Clueless, Kilimanjaro, Saka Manje (So what?) and 7 Wonders in the Dancehall Song, Reggae Song, Diaspora Song, Afro-fusion and Record of the Year award.

Other notable artists include Nigerian R ‘n B star 2Face Idibia leading with five nominations, South African afro-pop musician Professor with four nominations, Freshly Grounds and P Square tied with three.

South African popular disk jockey DJ Fisherman and rap group Tear-Gas have two nominations with DJ Fresh making it in the DJ of the Year category.

A third pan-African music awards event is flexing its muscles and acting as a platform for introducing music and artists from the continent to a broader audience.

Voting takes place publicly via the award's website until September 18, following the nominations of a Voter's Academy made up of African DJs, bloggers and VJs.
