"Gaddafi" gets last minute call

Dynamos striker Cuthbert Malajila, now popularly known as "Gaddafi" after fleeing turmoil in Libya, was on Tuesday drafted in as a last minute replacement for injured Edward Sadomba.

Malajila will join the team as they face Cape Verde in a key Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

The Al Hilal striker suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Sudanese team's 1-0 defeat to Tunisian club Esperance in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League in Omdurman on Sunday.

Sadomba flew to Harare immediately after the match and was assessed by the Warriors’ medical team on Monday morning.

"It's naturally a huge blow to lose a player like Sadomba,” said Warriors team manager Shariff Mussa. "He is an experienced player who has played a big part in the campaign so far and we will miss him. But in Malajila we have a good replacement. He is equally an experienced player," said Mussa.

Players from the domestic league — Washington Arubi, Malajila and Daniel Vheremu — leave Tuesday for South Africa where they will join up with players from the Absa Premier League before proceeding to Dakar, Senegal, to connect a flight to the Cape Verde islands.

German-based Knowledge Musona, Vusa Nyoni (Belgium) and Ovidy Karuru (France) will fly straight to Praia.

The Warriors need an outright win to go through and hope that Liberia beat or draw against Mali in the other Group A match kicking off at the same time.
