Government is in the process of auditing the funds given to every legislator to initiate development projects, after it emerged that some of the legislators converted the funds to their private use.

“Harare is experiencing severe water shortages that are literally crippling people’s quality of life, emanating from Harare city council’s failure,” said Majome. “I have been able to drill three boreholes in ward 16 and another one in ward 41 which is automated for security reasons.

This borehole was the most expensive because it serves a larger community. I managed to place a 5000 litre tank on it which reserves water in case of power cuts. It is my hope that in the next phase of the constituency development fund I drill four more boreholes so that every ward in my constituency has four boreholes, “she said.

Majome said she was in the process of engaging the local authorities so that they announce water cut schedules to the public.

The situation is desperate in Budiriro, and resulted in the stabbing of one person when residents queuing at a local UNICEF borehole fought ove the scarce commodity. Anti-riot police had also to be called to quell violence in Glen View B, which is one of the areas hard hit by the shortages.
