Masvingo United battles to beat the chop

Masvingo United are battling to beat the chop as the league season reaches it's climax.

United, now under the guidance of Ralph Kawondera, who was hounded out of Dynamos where he was assistant to Lloyd Mutasa, has lifted the team up to10th position on the league table with 30 points after he inflicted a swift revenge on his former paymasters following a 1-0 victory at the weekend.

The defeat may yet cost Dynamos the league title as it leaves them four points adrift of leaders FC Platinum who beat Black Mambas 3-1 on Saturday, with just five matches to play.

And. Kawondera, whose team is fighting to escape relegation, is delighted that his mission of saving the team from relegation this season is on the right track.

"We are now on 10th position on the league table after we beat Dynamos. It felt so good to beat them. They are a big team but I knew we would beat them at Mucheke. I am happy we have now moved away from the drop zone and we want to fight very hard in the remaining five matches so that we avoid relegation. We want to finish in a respectable position in the end," said Kawondera.

Four teams will face the axe at the end of the season while the other four from the Division One league will get promoted into the elite league.
