MDC youths call their leader's release

The MDC Youth Assembly has called for the urgent release of Solomon Madzore, the MDC youth chairperson who was arrested at his Waterfalls home in Harare this afternoon.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Harvest House today, the Youth Assembly secretary-general, Promise Mkwananzi condemned the arrest of Madzore and said it was nothing but politically motivated.

“The Youth Assembly wishes to state that Solomon Madzore is innocent; he has not committed any crime. Recently, the police arrested the MDC Youth Assembly chairperson, Costa Machingauta for no valid reason,” said Mkwananzi. Madzore is detained at the Harare Central Police Station.

Meanwhile, the 26 MDC activists who are facing false charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare in May will appear at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts for further remand tomorrow Wednesday. The policeman was murdered by revellers at a nightclub.

Nineteen of the activists have been granted bail at the High Court while the other seven are still in remand prison.

Those in remand prison are; Councillor Tungamirai Madzokere of Ward 32 Glen View, Lazarus Maengahama, Stanford Maengahama, Phineas Nhatarikwa, Stanford Mangwiro, Yvonne Musarurwa and Rebecca Mafikeni.
