Despite getting considerable airplay on the state controlled ZBC radio and television channels members of the Born Free Crew say they are not being paid at all.

“Some of us have even changed our mobile numbers as we fear Minister Shamu, he used to promise that he will pay us but he ended up threatening us,” said a Crew member who asked not be named for fear of repercussions.

In one of their songs, the youngsters have Mugabe chatting on a mobile phone berating Zimbabwean exiles “You run off to England, you get there and you get a job cleaning old white folks' behinds. Who are you running to?"

Zanu (PF) has destroyed the budding music careers of many musicians as the crowd reject the propaganda.

The front woman for Pax Afro, Yulita Ndlovu, whose songs were composed by former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo is now a waitress, while Last Chiwangwa, popularly known as Tambaoga, is now history despite being a talented musician.

Contacted for comment Shamu, who is also the patron of musicians and claims to champion their rights, said: “I do not talk to people over the phone, if you want to talk to me come to my office.”
