Moyo impresses in Botswana

Dion Moyo impressed at the recent Botswana International chess here, finishing in a credible second position behind Zambian FIDE Master Daniel Jere.

Players from South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabw participated.

The young Zimbabweans did us proud – Kudakwashe Zimbowa won the gold medal in the under 12 section. Jonah Chaka was defeated by Elisha Chimbamu in an interesting game. Chimbamu missed a win against Moyo who forced a draw with a few moves to mate. Moyo later defeated Spencer Masango. to claim the second position.

International master, Robert Gwaze, did not manage to travel to Botswana to defend his title as he was to collect his $5000 from President Robert Mugabe for winning a gold medal at the All Africa games. Gwaze won the Bulawayo Grand Prix last weekend with 6,5 points out of 7 games of play.

Meanwhile St. Ignatius are the winners of the Harare Schools Chess Association in division one. Prince Edward came second followed by Mabvuku High.
