Marni Kotak, 36, is a performance artist who has decided to deliver her baby as a work of art within the next few weeks.
She has set up a 'home-birth centre' at the Microscope Gallery and plans to give birth in an inflatable pool as a selection of strangers watch.
The gallery has extended the days it is open to all seven days a week so Kotak can develop a rapport with members of the public who come to see 'The Birth of Baby X'.
Ms Kotak said her audience "won't be total strangers". People who expressed an interest would be notified when she goes into labour.
"I'm developing an authentic relationship with these people," she said. "For me, it's like building a community of people who are really interested in this."
About 15 people are expected to witness the birth – the most the room can comfortably hold.
Her painter-artist husband Jason Robert Bell will document the whole thing, but no other cameras or video will be allowed.
Marni says her performances focus on everyday life experiences, and she has previously re-enacted losing her virginity, and her grandfather's funeral.Post published in: World News
