The two NGOs, whose names have been withheld for professional reasons, were offering humanitarian assistance to the residents in the drought prone area.
"Hunger has struck here and if we do not have any food allocations immediately some people might die. We used to have some food rations and we previously embarked on irrigation schemes that sustained our lives with the help of NGOs, but since the NGOs were chased away most of us have been exposed to hunger," said a traditional leader in the area.
Munacho Mutezo a Zanu (PF) politburo member who is eyeing the Chimanimani West constituency was blamed for chasing away the NGOs.
