Pub regulars chase off robbers

Robbers got more than they bargained for when they staged a closing time raid on a Manchester pub.

The would-be thieves were attacked and chased off by regulars armed with chairs at the Sylvan pub at Timperley.

One of them lost one of his trainers in his rush to escape – and police now hope it will lead them to the robbers.

CCTV footage shows the three robbers bursting through the door just before 11pm when there were a handful of locals finishing off their drinks.

But if they were expecting easy pickings, they were badly mistaken.

Det Con Andrew Taylor said: "These would-be thieves didn't anticipate when they walked into the pub that they would be fought off by the customers.

"I must commend the bravery of these people. As you can clearly see from the footage, they confronted the three men with no thought for their own safety in an attempt to detain them.

"We are determined to identify those responsible for this attempted robbery and stop them from targeting other businesses in the area."
