Sights set on 2013 cup

Zimbabwe defender, Lincoln Zwasiya, is adamant the senior national team will make up for their disappointment of not playing in next year’s African Nations Cup by qualifying for the 2013 edition in South Africa.

Zwasiya was part of the Warriors team that finished near the bottom of the qualifiers for the tournament scheduled for Equatorial Guinea and Gabon early next year. The disappointed Kaizer Chiefs player is confident that Zimbabwe has enough talent to go through to the 2013 edition in South Africa, saying they simply ran out of luck in the just-ended qualifiers.

“It was going to be first time for me to play in the finals. I was very disappointed after the game, so was everyone in the team. I am still young and I will be here with my country in 2013 when South Africa hosts the African Cup of Nations,” Zwasiya said.

“We did not qualify for 2012. There were lot of positives that we picked up during the qualifying campaign. It is important to collect points early in the qualifiers and we need to do exactly that if we are to come to South Africa.”

A product of the famous Black Aces Academy that produced other stars such as Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiart, Zwasiya has been hailed as a future prospect of Zimbabwean football.
