“We know our people have been traumatised. You have been traumatised by Gukurahundi, you have been traumatised by Murambatsvina and you have been traumatised since the formation of the MDC. What we want to see is that there must be justice for all,” he said.
“You know in 2008, we won the election but Zanu PF refused to leave office. When we formed the transitional government, people were struggling. When we won, we were forced to form this coalition to make Zimbabwe work again.
“People did not have food, the money was valueless and there was no employment.. There is now money in the country, we re-opened schools and hospitals, and we ensured water was available.”
The party’s national chairperson, Lovemore Moyo, said the people were neither intimidated nor scared of Zanu (PF)’s antics. He urged them to remain united and focussed.
“The MDC did not divide people. When we formed the party we knew there was unity we were united by one goal: ‘Mugabe and Zanu (PF) must go’. I am very happy you have made my day that we are now one and one party that cuts across ethnical and racial divide, united in the spirit of bringing to the people the change they deserve,” he said.
Speaking at Ziminya Business Centre, Tendai Biti, the MDC secretary-general, said it was sad to realise that no development had taken place in Matebeleland over the past 31 years of Zanu (PF)’s misrule.
“Thirty years after independence, no development has taken place in Nkayi. Independence just passed you by. The biggest crime Mugabe has done to Zimbabwe is under developing some regions in the country especially in the rural areas. There are no elderly women here, but young old women. Women who have grown old due to abuse,” he said
He said the MDC had a vision to create a better society for every citizen.Post published in: News
