The infamous base that made the headlines around the time of the sham 2008 harmonized elections is a training centre for the national youth service programme.

Two MDC-T youths, Rangarirai Muzariwetu and Francis Maina, were allegedly abducted from Saburi business centre last week by three men wearing Zanu (PF) t-shirts who were believed to be from the villainous torture base.

Villagers interviewed by this paper said they were now living in fear of harassment and beatings by the Zanu (PF) thugs.

"There is a high presence of armed soldiers in this area who are moving about with Zanu (PF) youths terrorizing and blaming us as enemies of Zanu (PF)."

One villager said Morris Chadzingwa, a Zanu (PF) activist and war veteran, was coordinating the terror campaign and is currently in the process of recruiting youths to undergo national youth training service.

"We are told to denounce the MDC and to beat up any suspected MDC supporters," said a youth currently undergoing "training" at the centre.

"Chadzingwa and other top Zanu (PF) officials recently addressed a gathering telling people that by the end of 2010, there would be no MDC supporters in the area and declared that the area is a Zanu (PF) zone," said the villager.

Villagers also complained that they were being mobilized to vote for the Zanu (PF) candidate for the area, Freddy Kanzama.

The MDC-T spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora, said it was important for people to freely express themselves if the country was to have truly democratic elections.
