Welcome Zimuto’s trial continues on the 24th of October

One ZINASU student leader, Welcome Zimuto and five civic society activists appeared before a Harare Regional Magistrate, today the 19th of October facing charges of Conspiracy to commit public violence as defined in section 188 as read with section 36 of the Criminal Law (codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23].

The State ruled that the case will continue on the 24th of October 2011. The Students Solidarity Trust continues to support student victims of human rights violations by lending its voice to calls for reforms in the justice system for most of the cases involving students have collapsed due to lack of evidence, a clear sign of bias from partisan prosecutors.

The continued dragging of these students in and out of court has a negative impact on their learning hence the need to see justice being delivered in time as soon as possible.
