Nzira, a loyal Zanu (PF) cadre, was among the church leaders expected to lead the
campaign for the party in the impending elections. As commander of thousands in the apostolic church, Nzira first made the headlines when he was accused of raping women at his shrine.
He was pardoned on compassionate grounds by President Robert Mugabe as his health was deteriorating. However, the public never quite forgave him.
Zanu (PF) national political commissar, Webster Shamu, was quoted in the state-controlled media describing Nzira as a "focused and principled" servant of God.
Members of the public questioned how a God fearing church leader could rape the very people who trusted him.Post published in: News
