ZIFA seek SA friendly

Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) is seeking to play a high profile international friendly against neighbours South Africa on November 15 as the national team readies for the 2014 World Cup and the 2013 African Cup of Nations finals.

South Africa are planning a tournament with some of the continent's top teams including Nigeria, Cameroon and Egypt and Zimbabwe has also expressed interest to be part of the tournament. The four teams just like Zimbabwe failed missed tickets to next year's African Cup of Nations finals to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze said they were still looking for possible opponents for next month's international friendly.

"We want the team to start preparations for the upcoming competitions including the world cup qualifiers," he said.

The Warriors failed to make it to next year's African Cup of Nations finals after they were beaten 2-1 by Cape Verde in Praia on October.

The Warriors are now pinning their hopes on making it to the next edition of the tournament to be held in 2013. They also want to try to book a place at the world cup finals to be hosted by Brazil the following year.
