Shearwater Adventures public relations manager, Clement Mukwasi, said the need for Zimbabwean rafting expertise came in response to the call for regional integration of tourism activities in preparation for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s 20th General Assembly in 2013.

“80 guides and rafters who work for Shearwater Adventures were called to the DRC to explore rafting opportunities in that country this month. Cephas Moyo, the Chairman of the Rafting Association of Zimbabwe led them. The purpose of the trip is to explore the commercial viability of rafting the Congo River and also to produce a video which will be showcased at the World Travel Market in London this month,” he said.

Mukwasi said the Zimbabwean team, whose trip to the DRC was facilitated by Lonrho, was chosen solely for its expertise in the field of rafting.
