ADB grant for water

Water and sewage services are likely to improve following the release of a $2 million grant from African Development Bank.

Chegutu Municipality Town Clerk, Alex Mandigo, said the local authority would use $700 000 to purchase of meters as most households do not have one.

In 2008, a number of people died of cholera in Chegutu because of lack of access to clean water. Most residents in high density suburbs of Umvovo and Kaguvi rely on unprotected wells for water.

Mandigo said they had also received a $550 000 grant from the government which would be channelled towards the establishment of a dedicated power feeder for the water works.
