Addressing a rally at Chikuku in the company of deputy local government minister, Sesel Zvidzai and other high ranking MDC officials in February this year, Chamisa promised residents that he would work on ensuring that one of the companies in the mobile telephones industry set up a network booster in the area.
True to his word, Econet Wireless began to construct a network booster in Chimbwambwa mountain in Village Mufari under Chief Budzi. Completion of the project is expected by end of this month and the area would be accessible to telephone and internet services.
“For a long time we felt left behind in ICT. We are grateful to Chamisa for making sure we join others around the country on modern ICT services including mobile phones communication and internet,” said Headman Machinge.
“Communication was difficult before the setting up of the network booster. Most of the time, we had to bury our relatives without our children knowing it because there was no network. One had to go to 35km to Nyika Growth Point or 50km to Birchenough Bridge to get access to the phone or internet,” he said.
MP for Bikita East, Edmore Marima said it was now easy for parents to phone their children in the cities asking for money to buy seed and fertilizer. Access to vital information by the community had been made possible, he added.
