Coalition not democratic: Makoni

Mavambo Kusile Dawn President Simba Makoni said forming a coalition to remove President Robert Mugabe in the next election would be a good thing for like-minded political parties, but would be a democratic step backwards for the people.

Political commentators have said the formation of a strong coalition opposition party was the only way of eliminating President Robert Mugabe.

“If your objective is that of wanting to remove Mugabe from office then, yes, creating an anti-Mugabe coalition will be the best thing. But we do not believe that it will be correct for us to enter into an alliance ahead of the national election, because it would mean short changing the people of Zimbabwe. It would undermine the fullness of democracy,” said Makoni this week.
