“I am glad to announce that the council has secured a bank loan from Agri-Bank to pay workers salaries on a single day. The council was struggling to pay the workers on time due to financial challenges,” said council chairperson, Cephas Mazambani.
A number of other local authorities are believed to have entered into similar arrangements with financial institutions.
The council was struggling to pay its workers, and still owed some more than nine months-worth of salaries.
“Council wage payment obligations far outweighed its cash inflow, a development which should be addressed immediately,” said Mazambani.
