Criminals will be prosecuted: Tagwireyi

The MDC is compiling a list of perpetrators of political violence for possible prosecution when the rule of law is restored in Zimbabwe, the MDC-T Mashonaland East Provincial Organising Secretary, Boniface Tagwireyi, has said.

Tagwireyi gave the warning to political thugs after visiting an MDC-T member, Knight Kanyayi, who is under Zanu (PF) siege at his Chimbwanda Ward 9 Farm in Mahusekwa.

“Political thugs enjoying temporary protection from Zanu (PF) and the partisan police should be warned that their days are numbered. We are gathering names of the perpetrators of violence for future reference and the criminals will eventually be brought to account,” said Tagwireyi.

Kanyayi is under house arrest by Zanu (PF) thugs led by Ambrose Mutinhiri, Foster Gwanzura, Jerry Chinguwa, Norman Marara and James Chimbetete Mapanga.

“Mutinhiri was the main architect of the terror campaign. His team of thugs spotted Kanyayi at the PM hospital visit and put him under surveillance. Kanyayi is the former MDC-T Marondera West District Treasurer and Zanu (PF) accused him of sustaining MDC interests in the area. Following the PM’s visit, Zanu (PF) has been holding daily party meetings in the vicinity of Kanyayi’s homestead. The thugs make threatening speeches against Kanyayi, demanding that his family turn Zanu (PF) or risk unspecified disciplinary action. The MDC is closely following the developments,” said Tagwireyi.

Kanyayi reported the threats to Police Inspector Moyo at Mahusekwa Police Station on November 4, 2011, but no action was taken.

He said no amount of intimidation would turn MDC supporters into Zanu (PF) as “once MDC always MDC”.
