FC Platinum can sew up the league title

FC Platinum can sew up the league title if they beat rivals Dynamos this afternoon when the two sides clash in a potentially

explosive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie at Mandava Stadium.

Dynamos beat defending league champions Motor Action 2-0 last weekend and the emotional win kept FC Platinum’s lead in the title race down to just three points ahead of the two teams’ meeting in Zvishavane.

FC Platinum, who beat Monomotapa by the same score, are on 55 points from 28 matches while Dynamos trail behind on 52 points with only two matches before the end of the campaign. That means a win for FC Platinum today will see the Zvishavane based side being crowned champions of Zimbabwean football in their maiden season in the top flight league. That would render their season-ending trip to Shooting Stars inconsequential.

Dynamos meet FC Platinum next and end the season at Rufaro against relegated Kiglon.

FC Platinum assistant coach Tendai Chikuni whose side were beaten 1-0 by Dynamos in the Mbada Diamonds Cup semi-finals predicted a tough match this week. “It will be difficult to play against Dynamos who defeated us only last week in the Mbada Diamonds Cup. But that was a cup game and the league is a different ball game altogther. We have been preparing well for this game and we are confident of beating Dynamos and win the league title. It will not be easy but we are eager to bring the trophy to Zvishavane community,” said Chikuni.
