ZUJ Secretary General, Foster Dongozi, said the Union conducted research and identified the needs of various charity organizations across the country.
“We embarked on a fact finding mission to identify charity organizations that need support. In this exercise we are now following up these charities to make donations based on identified needs,” Dongozi said. “Following our on the ground assessment, we decided to assist Mlondozi Prison in Bulawayo, Chimanimani Community Based Childcare, Mutoko Leprosy, Mashayamombe Rural School in Mhondoro, Gutu Mission Hospital in Masvingo and Chiedza Child Care in Harare.”
Dongozi added that the idea was to remind citizens that the media also has a role to play in supporting the needy.
“As journalists we should go beyond mirroring societal ills, and play an active role in empowering disadvantaged people and development,” he said.
