Following rumours that the secessionist movement’s leader has close links with top Zanu (PF) officials, Nandinandi admitted in an interview with The Zimbabwean that Sibanda, one of Zimbabwe’s intransigent generals, is a close friend of his.
This is despite the fact that President Robert Mugabe and Zanu (PF) have declared the MLF a tribally divisive movement.
“I do not know about these other senior Zanu (PF) people you are talking about, but Valerio Sibanda and I trained together during the liberation struggle and he is a friend of mine,” said Nandinandi.
Nandinandi’s revelations fly in the face of recent comments by MLF national spokesman, David Magagula, who told The Zimbabwean that his party would arrest Sibanda, Defence Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa and Airforce commander, Perrence Shiri as it seeks justice for the post-independence Fifth Brigade killings.
